Chief Data Officer (CDO) - full time (m/f/d)

Founded by economic thought leaders and technologists, WDL is a data science SaaS enterprise that uses cutting-edge peer-reviewed methodologies and AI to most credibly model and forecast spending power as well as demographic dynamics. With the data contained in our MarketPro tool, businesses all over the world can make better strategic decisions based on unique insights into the market.
In conjunction with the commercial entity, we have also founded an NGO to be at the forefront of the ESG trend and to create sustainable impact by tracking SDGs in real-time through our various projects like population.io, worldpoverty.io, and worldhunger.io.
We are looking for candidates who thrive in fast-paced environments, don’t shy away from challenges, and genuinely want to make an impact. To further strengthen the backbone of WDL with unique data methodologies and an exceptional data team, we are currently looking for an experienced leader in the data field who is excited to drive project work forward and manage teams with international elements.

Your contribution to World Data Lab:

  • Lead, build, and develop growing existing data teams
  • Conceptualize, plan, and lead implementation of new functionalities from the ground up
  • Provide strategic input to WDL’s data & product roadmap
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on ongoing projects and provide estimations for future collaborations with private entities, national governments, and other international actors

What we are looking for:

  • At least 10 years of experience in working with data and building statistical models, of which 3 years in a leading role;
  • Fluency in English is essential, additional languages (especially French and Spanish) are advantageous
  • Demonstrated track record of top performance leading data teams and innovative projects
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong global network and capacity to represent WDL internationally
  • Excellent programming experience in R and Python;
  • Experience in manipulating data and drawing insights from large datasets
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical concepts and techniques (Bayesian model averaging, random forests, etc.);
  • Passion for clean code and focus on simplicity;
  • Ability to work and be flexible in a fast-paced scale-up environment;
  • Be open to learning something new each day.

Additional skills:

  • Background in Economics, the Digital Economy or Labor Economics;
  • Expertise with neural networks;
  • Experience with GitHub and RMarkdown.

Our mission is big: make everyone count!

We offer a base salary starting at 81,000 EUR per year and offer a considerable overpayment based on previous experience.
